Good work!!! The High School in Tyler is bringing the cell phone into the class room and they have had great success. Good topic, best of luck!!
ReplyDeleteHi! Your plan is well thought out. I like how you are starting with the basics. I am curious to hear about your findings. My district is allowing cell phones in the class as well, but what I am seeing is that teachers dont know how to implement using them in an effective manner. We cannot have students directly have twitter accounts for use in the elementary classroom. I like your use of survey monkey. I like that the results are accurate and fast. Thanks for doing this, I am interested to hear your results! AlSo, thanks for everything you do for our class! Have a blast in Scotland! I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you design your plan. Do you have a good support system to accomplish your goal. Especially since some teachers may not agree with students having cell phones in the class. I think it's good that you are using surveys in order to see what works and what didn't work. The main thing is having the support from your colleagues. Good luck and have a safe trip.
ReplyDeleteI will love to hear about your findings. My district is interested in having cell phones inside the classroom as well. I am interested to see the guidelines and expectations you will put into place for your students.
ReplyDeleteThis plan is awesome, you've detailed every minute of each expected routine and what will be done. The feedback, opinion and finally sharing the results of the information give the whole plan texture. Can't wait to see more details!
ReplyDeleteTo echo Debbie --- thank you (and John!!) for all that you do for our class! I know I have thanked both of you before, but my Pastor reminds us all the time that people don't have to be nice to you. When they are, the very least you can do is say "Thank you"!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!!
Regarding your plan, WOW! I have a niece who is a high school sophomore in Atlanta. She began texting me during the middle of the day last school year. Initially, I threatened to WALK to Atlanta and take her cell phone away because she was not focusing on her studies and she was going to cause a big stink when her cell phone got confiscated for illegally having it at school ---- again... She told me they were allowed to have cell phones at school and allowed to use them for coursework, etc. I was blown away when her parents confirmed this!
I think this is a novel idea because the majority of the students have access to technology anyway. Why not use that to our advantage? The only thing about them using their own devices is that we can not control exactly what they see or where they 'go' on the web. Secure firewalls would definitely be needed. This is a grand project!!!!!
I am very interested to stay informed about your action research study. Teaching band, there are always moments that I let students access their cell phones to find recordings of something that we are working on. I did this several times last year when we needed to view different versions of some pieces being performed on stage, but YouTube was blocked on my campus. Instead, we all gathered around students cell phone's to watch what we needed to and get some ideas on how we could better perform from those videos.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how things are changing and cell phones are a tool of technology. I am looking forward to reading more about your plan because I would really like to see the results of how effective it is in the schools.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for the positive feedback! On several of your blogs, I tried to comment on your draft, but I did not see one posted. I will check back tomorrow before I leave for Scotland Saturday :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is such an interesting topic. I am curious to see the positive research that comes from you plan with regards to cell phones. On our campus they are seen in such a negative way.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I am very interested in learning about your results. I think cell phones should be allowed in the classroom for academic learning and sharing. Great job!
